CELEBRATIONS: Treasurer Beryl Funnell presents flowers to the Lord Mayor

THERE were birthday celebrations galore at Greenhill Senior Citizens’ Club on Friday. The group itself was 50 years old, and two of its members also celebrated their 70th year. Herne Bay MP Sir Roger Gale and Lord Mayor of Canterbury Cllr Ann Taylor joined the party and shared their own memories of the club. Secretary Gill Pullen said:

“We had a lovely day when members could get together and celebrate the opening of the original club all those years ago. Sir Roger remembered it when it started in a hut, and Cllr Taylor also knows the area very well so knew a lot about what we do. We were delighted they could join us and we had a crooner singing in the afternoon, so it really was fantastic.”

The birthday boys were Bob Pullen, who was 70 the day before, and Ivan Cordier, who shared his birthday with the club. One of the longest-serving members, treasurer Beryl Funnell, who has been with the club for 23 years, presented Cllr Taylor with a bouquet.
