Herne Bay Sea Cadets Corps celebrated winning £47,000 from Sport England to improve their facilities. The group, led by Officer Frederika Garside are now in the middle of upgrading the toilets, kitchen and showers at their base in Hampton Pier Avenue. They were visited by MP Sir Roger Gale, and presented him with a Rotary Shield for his outstanding contribution and for helping them win the funds. Vice-chairman of the group’s trustees Carole Burgess said:

“We’re so grateful and Sir Roger has been so helpful. The new facilities will make a huge difference. We had just one shower for a group of 30 cadets, and only one boys’ and one girls’ toilet. These were the ones we had from the original building in the 1950s but the funding will allow us to have more showering facilities and disabled access. it will allow us to have groups coming to use the site from across Kent. We’ve worked with Strode Park Foundation who have been instrumental in their support too.”

Herne Bay Sea Cadets meet every Tuesday and Thursday, and their award-winning band practices on Monday. To find out more visit their Facebook page or http://www.sea-cadets.org/hernebay/
