The bimonthly lunch meeting was held at the Herne Bay Angling Association in Central Parade. The guest speaker was Peter Smoothy who had just returned from Normandy where he had joined fellow veterans for the 70th anniversary of the invasion. Peter described his time in the Royal Navy and gave a detailed account of the part he played in the Normandy landings, first of all taking Canadian troops to Juno beach and then making more than 30 subsequent crossings transporting tanks and lorries in his LST Tank Landing Craft and bringing back to the UK wounded soldiers and German prisoners. The next lunch and branch meeting will be on August 26. For details ring the secretary on 01227 361801.
