A Herne Bay man has been charged in connection with an alleged confrontation at the Wheatsheaf restaurant in Whitstable.

Robert Simon Jacobs, of Grand Drive in Herne Bay, has been charged with affray, criminal damage to property, possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious substance, attempted wounding, threats to kill, and threats to damage/destroy property.

The 53-year-old has been remanded in custody.

The charges are in relation to an alleged incident at the restaurant, a branch of the Hungry Horse, in Herne Bay Road on Saturday (March 21).

A 42-year-old woman, also arrested in connection with the incident, has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
