At the June 17 meeting Margaret Burns opened the evening with Society news and information on future events. Our speaker, Kevin Tooher, was to give a presentation and talk on the Work of Hadlow College but, unfortunately, his laptop had other ideas! Instead Kevin gave a talk on the college’s beginnings to the present day and how it has diversified and now covers all aspects of land management, offering many courses. Margaret Burns thanked Kevin for this excellent talk. The meeting was reminded of events that are coming up:
June 29 Summer Flower and Rose Show, open to the Public from 2-4pm, entry 50p. Come along and see a wonderful array of Roses (the perfume in the hall is glorious), summer flowers, fruits, if you have any gardening problems our panel of ‘home grown’ experts are holding another Ask the Expert table which was very popular last year, plant sale, raffle and refreshments.
July 5 A visit to Quex Park Garden has been arranged and on August 8 a Kentish Tea is being held once again by Elizabeth Hopkins, entry by ticket only, from Roy Allen.
Our next meeting is on July 15 when our speaker Laurie Manser will be speaking on Growing and Showing Roses.
The Society meets at the Institute Hall, Canterbury Road, Herne, on the third Tuesday of each month, except August and December, from 7pm. Visitors are welcome and entry fee is £1.50, which includes a cup of tea/coffee and biscuit.
