New platform at London Bridge
Freelance photographer Alan Chapman gave a talk to members of the Herne Bay Photographic Club

The members enjoyed a very different lecture on January 20, from freelance paparazzi Alan Chapman.

Alan has been photographing celebrities for the media for more than 30 years. Today he is more likely to go into clubs and parties to photograph the rich and famous.

Members were treated to a selection of Alan’s images, together with an often hilarious commentary of how the shot was taken, or in some cases missed. He regaled members with stories about stars such as Mick Jagger and Liam Gallagher, and how he was once attacked by Jay Kay, lead singer of Jamiroquai, his face being shown all over the national press.

Alan has just published a book, Frame, which contains a selection of his high-quality, black and white, limited-edition prints. US actor Adrain Grenier, star of Entourage and The Devil Wears Prada, writes the foreword, which ends: “I have my own copy and it sits well with my entire art collection. I love it.”

January 27 was the mono/DPI competition. Tuesday, February 3, will be a practical evening. One of the club’s experienced members will be providing a tutorial on some of the aspects of Photoshop.

The club meets on a Tuesday at the Beacon Centre, Sea Street, from 8pm-lOpm (doors open at 7.45pm). It costs £2 on the door, and if you join, membership costs £20 for the year. All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
