THE Lord Mayor of Canterbury, councillor Heather Taylor is a familiar figure around town, and will be back this week to visit the Ladies Who Latte networking group at the Bandstand. So when council leader John Gilbey sang her praises at Last week’s meeting of the full council, he may have expected a warm reception. His choice of words may have been ill-advised though when, paraphrasing the Heineken beer slogan, he said: “She has gone to places others have not.” When news of his quote hit Twitter, reaction was mixed, from those who simply said: “The mind boggles”, to others who decided to suggest where some of those places may be. One of her fans responded: “Lord Mayor & mayoress have done brilliant good luck with the new Lord Mayor #boring!!!” Her replacement is tipped to be Cllr Tony Austin, who at the same meeting raised eyebrows after declaring the reason so many new houses were needed in the local plan was because the Government had not done enough to restrict immigration. Boring may not be the right word…
