Evening parking proposal

MEMBERS of Swale’s joint transportation board will discuss plans for free evening parking in Faversham’s town centre next month. The board is expected to agree a lifting of parking restrictions in the evening. The plan is for yellow lines to be put in place along parts of Preston Street, East Street, Market Street, Market-Place and Court Street. The new lines would permit parking between 6pm and 6am. In a previous report to the board, lead officer Brett O’Connell said:

“Swale Borough Council parking services have been working with Faversham Town Council growth and development group to review and improve parking provision within Faversham town centre. The aim has been to increase the availability of parking and help support retailers and businesses in the town.”

Work already undertaken includes changes to the central car park, creating 18 more spaces. The meeting is at Swale Borough Council’s offices on March 10.
