Ducks return for river race

Last year’s charity duck race
Last year’s charity duck race

A flotilla of yellow ducks will make its way down the Stour through Canterbury next month. The annual duck race organised by Canterbury Rotary Club will come under starters orders in the Westgate Gardens at 11am on Saturday, July 12, with a £250 prize for the first to finish. Rotarians will be “selling” the ducks at £1 each, or £25 for a corporate entry, at supermarkets, starting today (Thursday), tomorrow and Saturday in Asda. The second prize is £100 and third will get £50. The cash was donated by Canterbury Kent Reliance and Crunefighter Alarms. The ducks will be sold in Morrisons from July, 3 to 5 and also in Rose Square in the city centre on July 5. Last year’s event raised £6,000, which the club distributed to good causes.
