Home ... NNF ... Manston ... Woken in the small hours, 1st July

Hi,

I live in Ramsgate and was woken up at 3.50am this morning (1st July 2011) by a plane coming in to land at Manston.  I couldn't get back to sleep.  I feel terrible now and I know I'll feel terrible for the rest of the day.  It makes Ramsgate a bad place to live and I find that really upsetting.

Hello,

Not sure if this will go to the correct people, if not you can pass it on please.

Today, Friday 1 July at 03.51 this morning an aircraft landed at Manston Airport, with a lot of noise, again at about 05.00 another movement, sounded like a smaller plane but still quite noisy.

Considering there are supposed to be no night flights, these movements are not just late arrivals.

The complaints dept. phone has been unavailable all morning and still is.

I contacted 01843 823949 and spoke to a young lady who said my complaint would be passed on and a letter would be sent to me later. Will let you know the contents soon after receipt.

Yours sincerely,

DC (Cliffsend )

Woken this morning at 03:55 by plane coming in to land over Ramsgate.  Will be drafting letter to Lazy Laura this weekend, demanding action be taken.

  1. Badbad neighbour

I too got woken by this jet. What is clear that we have a Bad, Bad Neighbour and an even worse and deplorable/worthless local authority.

Yes I knew when I moved here there was an airport, however when I looked into the details there was not a great deal of nightflights.I have now sent several complaints to my Manston and I always recive the standard reply::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::I am sorry that you have found cause to complain about the operation of the Airport and apologise for any disturbance caused. As the operators of Manston, Kents International Airport, we are very conscious of the noise generated by the Airport in the local community. For this reason, Manston has in place operational guidelines for all aircraft operators designed to minimise airport related noise on the community. Your complaint has been investigated and the aircraft concerned was operating in accordance with safe working practice. Details of the aircraft operating around the time you mention is as follows:-DateTimeOperator/AircraftCommentQC17.02.110311Cargolux B744Delayed4Night flights occasionally operate at Manston Airport. Such flights have occurred since before the airport was purchased by the current operator and these non scheduled flights are provided for in the Section 106 Planning Agreement in place between the airport and Thanet District Council. Current planning controls in place at Kent International Airport allow for the movement of aircraft during night-time hours. Current planning controls in place at Manston Airport allow for the movement of aircraft during night-time hours. Occasionally, as you experienced on the 17 February, a flight suffers a delay to its operation, causing a flight early in the morning or late at night. This type of activity is permitted as it is essential to allow the aircraft operator to continue its flying programme and catch up with its flying schedule. As the airport operator we report all movements to the District Council and the Airport Consultative Committee and we do not host movements which contravene the conditions and planning controls in place at the airport. The Air Traffic Control staff at Manston work hard to ensure that the Noise Abatement Procedures are adhered to as air traffic or weather conditions permit and will continue to monitor flight paths flown. Where necessary and possible, operators will be diverted on to disturbance minimising paths. Whilst we endeavour to avoid noise pollution where possible, our overriding concern is air safety. At Manston, we have made, and will continue to make, substantial investments in our Air Traffic Services facility both in terms of equipment and human resource. This facility provides a comprehensive compliant service, including adherence to our S106 commitments relating to noise abatement. I hope this information is helpful. The details of your complaint will be retained for statistical purposes. Yours sincerelyCustomer ServicesManston, Kents International Airport

  4. End of Runway Person: I don't think Manston realise how massively annoying it is, and how much good will they are losing, by fobbing people off with these standard replies. Click on the "Complain" menu option on the left for more suggestions on how to make your complaints count.
