Members met at St Mary’s Hall, Whitstable, for a business meeting. The dates of forthcoming fundraising events were finalised, confirming that the popular Fashion Show was booked for April 15 at the Christian Centre, Sea Salter.

Malcolm Ward reminded everyone that the quiz nights at the moment are in aid of Blood Runners, a volunteer rapid response service delivering blood, vaccines, Xrays etc to local hospitals, and the next two quizzes would be held on Saturdays February 28 and April 18 at the All Saints Church Hall, Church Street, Whitstable.

The charge of £8 per person would include a fish and chip supper in the interval. Anyone wishing to take part should contact Malcolm on 01227 771068.

Requests for funding from HiKent for its hearing aid clinics and for high visibility jackets for children attending a local preschool were approved. A contribution towards expenses, for a volunteer working in a deprived local community and its primary school in Chile, was also granted.

The evening ended with a celebration buffet as members congratulated Primrose Cobb on her 90th birthday. Still a very active member, Primrose joined Whitstable and Herne Bay Lions Club more than 20 years ago and has served on both the fundraising and community services committees.
