THROUGHOUT my time as leader of council in this wonderful city and district, I have tried to represent each and every resident to take us all through very difficult circumstances caused by the financial situation in this country. Of course it is not always possible to please everyone on every occasion. We have had to make difficult decisions but we have also been ambitious and forward-looking in the many excellent projects we have undertaken. Next year should see some respite as we have been able to balance the budget and still maintain our services but the following two years will again be difficult, unfortunately. However, if our national economy continues to develop, things may be better than we are forecasting. The local economy is thriving and certainty on the crowds walking in our high streets this Christmas we are all doing our best to make sure it continues.
Despite the weather, I hope you have all had a peaceful Christmas and I assure you that I will continue to do everything I can to ensure that we all have a happy and prosperous New Year. We are working hard for long-term stability, prosperity and a settled environment, so that we can all just get on with our lives.
