I am writing as secretary of Canterbury Amnesty International.
As a group whose purpose is ‘to protect individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied’, we are heartened by the moral stance taken by KM Group with regard to adverts for sexual services (Former Cop Calls For Sex Ads Crackdown/Our Moral Stand On These Sleazy Adverts, Kentish Gazette, December 2).
Clever grooming followed by fear and coercion can make women and children powerless to defend themselves, and any sexual service provided in this way must be seen as rape. Printing adverts that could be a front for criminal networks provides a respectable face to a vicious trade. Thank you for reminding us all that people are not commodities.
