NHS cuts hit home

The article by Sir Roger Gale in the Gazette could almost have been written by an opposition member and not from a person whose party is actually in power. I deeply sympathise with his view that it is a sorry situation that the Queen Vic hospital has had so many of its outpatients services stripped and placed in the inaccessible …

Elderly people have political awareness

I refer to the recent letter from Anne Belworthy praising the students from Canterbury Academy for mocking Ukip (Well Done To Pupils Poking Fun At Ukip, Letters and Opinion, Herne Bay Gazette, January 1). This is fine, but I take issue with her last paragraph where she states if only older people than them had as much political awareness. Nothing …

Well done to pupils poking fun at Ukip

All that I can say is well done to the young people at the Canterbury Academy who have been able to poke funny at this very scary party who are peddling the politics of blame and fear so reminiscent of the 1930s (Ukip Leader Doesn’t Get Kick Out Of ‘Pathetic’ Phone App, Gazette and Faversham News, December 25)! She lists her view of the advantages of the Human Rights Act, but did not point out the many disadvantages. The latest shows that …

Pensioners’ group slams MP’s comment

CANTERBURY and District Pensioners’ Forum chairman Anne Belworthy has slammed a statement from a district MP saying pensioners should have to pay bedroom tax. Mrs Belworthy, from Herne Bay, branded the tax “cruel on the low paid and those on benefits” and said it would hit those on state pensions the hardest if their exemption was removed. The bedroom tax …

We are all in it together, so cut your allowances

In my submission to the budget consultation I have suggested that the Canterbury City Council councillors take a cut of 25% from their allowances. Their cost is high to the local taxpayer, some of them are also Kent County Councillors taking quite considerable sums from that purse too. As David Cameron is always reminding us “we are all in this together,” …
