Street art and coffee make perfect combination

HERNE Bay has a new coffee shop. The Coffee Lab, in Mortimer Street, opened to customers at the end of last month. It is owned by Ben Bennett and his father, who support businesses by selling locally produced cakes alongside reasonably priced food and drink. Ben said:

“The idea all began with wanting somewhere to eat where I could enjoy two of my passions, coffee and street art. With a young family we often found it difficult to access other independent coffee shops. After my mum had an operation and was wheelchair-bound for a year, we found out how few places had the facilities to cater for her.”

Access is a strong theme, and the shop has been kitted out with baby-changing and disability facilities as well as a decked rear garden for customers. The Coffee Lab’s industrial theme is complemented by wall murals, designed street artist Catman. Some of the work displayed is for sale and alongside artwork by Tommy Gurr. Both artists featured in last year’s World Stencil Art Championship in Sydney. To learn more about the Coffee Lab visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Kentcoffeelab
