Lifeboat crews escorted a broken down motor cruiser back to the shore off Herne Bay on Sunday at 4pm. The crew located the craft half a mite west of the old pier head, but its occupants had managed to restart the engine. The Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat escorted the 21ft vessel ashore at Herne Bay harbour, where the coastguard team was waiting to help. The lifeboat was also called out on Friday evening following reports of an empty inflatable dinghy off the coast if Herne Bay. It was located one mile north of Bishopstone and taken onboard the lifeboat. There were no signs of recent occupation so it was brought ashore.
