A stable was burnt to the ground this morning in a fire that could be seen more than a mile away. The building in a field near the former Herne Bay Golf Course caught fire at about 6.45am today (Friday), and the fire was initially reported as grassland.
But when crews arrived on the scene they discovered the stable was well alight, with smoke blowing across the Thanet Way and visible from the seafront. Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Alan Bradford said:
Two fire engines attended a field near the golf course this morning, initially to grassland alight but it was actually a single storey building believed to have been used as a stable that was on fire. Crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, and no injuries (humans or otherwise) were reported from the scene.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
