South East rail summit urged by MP

London Bridge
There have been severe delays at London Bridge caused by redevelopment
Caroline Lucas, who is the Brighton Pavilion MP, has written to the chief executives of Govia and Network Rail, calling  for an “urgent rail summit” to address problems faced by commuters in the South East.

She said the 07:29 service from Brighton to London Victoria failed to arrive on time every day of 2014. A Network Rail spokesman said:

We accept that the standard of service provided to passengers hasn’t been what we would wish for. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss the improvements we’re trying to make, with Caroline.

London mayor Boris Johnson met rail bosses to discuss the travel disruption at London Bridge station, on Thursday afternoon. The station is being rebuilt for the Thameslink Programme. Green Party MP Ms Lucas said:

My constituents are fed up with unreliable, overcrowded and overpriced trains. I’ve been inundated by letters and emails from passengers who have had to experience cancelled trains, late-running services, overcrowded trains and platforms, and pitiful communications systems.
