Retirement complex manager Simon Grier swam around the old pier head to raise money for charity. Mr Grier took the plunge from the beach at Herne Bay on June 15 to support the Malawi Association for Christian Support and has so far raised more than £2,000. He was sponsored by residents at Thwaytes Court in Sea Street, where he works, and said the charity was close to his heart because he grew up in Malawi. He said:
“I am so overwhelmed by the support both McCarthy & Stone and the residents have given me. The homeowners at Thwaytes Court have raised more than £1,300 alone for me which just goes to show what a fantastic community we have at the development. It was a huge challenge for me as deep water makes me extremely nervous but it was all for a good cause. We were extremely lucky with the weather on the day and to see everyone down at the pier supporting me really urged me on.”
Simon also plans to spend time in Malawi this summer working on community projects.
