UKIP supporters say leader Nigel Farage won’t pull the wool over your eyes – but that pearl of wisdom hasn’t stopped one nan from knitting a mini version of the politician. Pat Wilson has created a knitted Nigel, and also a woolly Cameron, Clegg, Miliband, Natalie Bennett and other candidate figures, in the run-up to the General Election. The talented 59-year-old won’t be casting any of her creations off, saying she is attached to them all. She said:

“It’s hard to say who the favourite is. Nigel Farage gets the most comment — but having spent so long on them I’m attached to them all. Natalie Bennett was the only tagged leader to retweet. Maybe I’ll vote for her! I’m doing the local candidates now — just the heads, which I’m putting over their election leaflets!”

Pat says doing the clothes and bodies does not take too long but getting the right expression can “burn the midnight oil”. Nigel Farage was rather taken with his knitted self, saying:

“Pat’s work is great fun and really rather wonderful — I love the way that she hasn’t given me grey hair.”
