Plans for a new £850,000 community centre in Herne have been submitted to Canterbury City Council. It will be built on the site of the current community centre near School Lane in the village, which the parish council says has become tired and dilapidated. The new centre will include a larger hail area, a fully-equipped kitchen and new meeting rooms for smaller groups to hire. Parish council clerk Monica Blythe said the existing centre has problems with poor toilets, lack of kitchen space and poor disabled access. She said:
“The new centre will offer better facilities where people can prepare food In new kitchens, and an improved main hall. Small groups will be able to rent the smaller meeting rooms without worrying too much about the costs. It will be a much nicer looking building which is more energy efficient too. It will address all the problems that we have with the current building.”
