HOUND ABOUT THAT?: Artist Lloyd Hobbard-Mitchell with his Whitstable Dog

A SCULPTURE of a dog covered in Whitstable landmarks has been sold on eBay after a bidding war with nearly 90 offers for the artwork. Artist Lloyd Hobbard-Mitchell created The Whitstable Dog on the beach after he was given a blank fibreglass sculpture by British artist Brett Neal. The dog featured landmarks and icons of the town including a pink Mansell fort, the RNLI flag, The Oyster Bar, Squeeze gut alley and the phrase ‘I love Bubble’. In total, 86 bids were submitted for the piece with the winner offering being £1.650. The window for bids closed at 6pm on Sunday and the winning bidder was Pat, who has a relative in Whitstable. Mr Hobbard-Mitchell said:

“Ideas for the place came from local knowledge, internet searches and suggestions from the folk on the beach. The experience of painting whilst on the beach was fun. The eBay auction did well and it’s good that the place had so many views.”

Mr Hobbard-Mitchell has created some postcards and posters featuring the dog, which are available at the Horsebridge Centre and or at www.stoppedandstared.com
