Herne man John Price has completed his challenge of running the Brighton Marathon dressed as 13th-century Scottish warrior William Wallace, or ‘Braveheart’. Running for Cancer Research UK, he raised more than £2,500, to add to the £5,500 he pulled in last year.
“It was a fantastic event. The weather was great, the crowd was amazing and I beat my last marathon time by 40 minutes, finishing in four hours and nine minutes, so I’m pretty pleased. The only damage was a walnut-sized blister on my big toe !
My wife Carrie and our great mate Stella came down for support, while niece Holly and her lovely friend, also Holly, came down for additional cheering. I’m pretty sure that an old mate, Graham Luker, was there as well as I heard him call but couldn’t see him. If that was you who called out ‘Come on, JP !’, thanks for making the effort to come down and we’ll catch up for a beer soon.
I must thank Carrie for all her support during the training – I could not have done it without her. Lastly, another huge thanks to everyone who supported my fund-raising. Between us all, we raised £2,536 on the nose this year. Added to last year’s £5,500 between niece Holly and I, that’s £8,036 for Cancer Research UK. Please all give yourselves a pat on the back – amazing!”
