Illegal cycling fines could pay for courts

INSTEAD of charging people to play tennis (“You cannot be serious”, Times, June 25) the council should impose the “no cycling on the promenade” by-law which is a maximum £500 fine. I was walking along the prom today and I counted ten people cycling in the no cycling area which would, if all paid the fine, more than pay for the £3,000 spent on the courts. Also it would be much safer for us pedestrians and dog walkers.
