The club ran one of its new-format competitions, comprising both a subject and an open section, with Cherry Larcombe as judge. The first half of the evening was devoted to photos on the subject of landscape. Cherry was impressed with the variety of images that members had provided, with first place going to Volker Jottkandt with Sunset a la Turner. She felt the light and muted colours of this image were excellent. She especially liked the simplicity of the image. Second place went to Di Long with Wuthering Heights Country, and Derrick Smith was third with High and Dry. After the break Cherry judged the open section. First place went to Denise Smith with Round the Bend. Cherry described the image as stunning: a beautiful composition of shapes and colours. Boats Becalmed by Peter Riley was second, and third was Barn Owl by Peter Holliday.
This week the club left the confines of its usual meeting place and went out into the field for a practical evening of light painting. On November 25 there will be the second half of the landscape/open competition, this time for digital images. The club has an exhibition. It’s In the BAG is at the Bay Art Gallery, William Street. As an added bonus, we will be offering discounted membership to anyone who signs up during the event, or who takes a completed membership form along to the next club meeting on November 25.
