For the last meeting members had been requested to bring along for display items under the letters A and B and as usual the response was excellent. The evening started with items showing Gold Coast postmarks for towns with those letters also a selection of air letters from various African countries to the Gold Coast. This was followed by some receipts from various assurance companies. which in the early days bore stamps as part of the receipt. A group of First World War postcards included some showing the cartoons of Bruce Bairnsfather, while others showed damage to Belgian cities including that of Albert, then followed a group of advertising postcards. A selection of stamps and chocolate related cards were presented representing Belgium royalty. This was followed by a selection of covers from many countries but all having a theme of being either army or air force related. Finally there was a series of covers each bearing a British army cap badge together with all of the actual badges mounted for display. The society will meet next on Friday November 21 at the United Church hall, Herne Bay High Street at 7.15 for a 7.45 start when it will be an evening with Alan Munday.
