AT THE society meeting on the March 24 Iris Shaw, a Kent area demonstrator, gave a demonstration entitled Facets of my Life in which she captured texture, colour and form using both foliage and flowers gathered from her garden and her supplier. The arrangements had titles such as Our Garden, Ring of Friendship, La Cuisine, etc, each display being accompanied by anecdotes and stories which had given Iris the inspiration for each one — her garden, her friends far and wide, living in France, holidays — particularly Jamaica — and cooking for friends and relatives. A profusion of flowers and foliage was used such as — buddlela, which was just sprouting its leaves, eleangus, choisya and skimmia to name a few. There were also stock, tulips, sunflowers, freesia (in her favourite purple), red and yellow roses, germini, cymbidium orchids and many more beautiful flowers. Iris also used an anthurium, Sweet Tips, which had the audience enthralled with its beauty. Additions to some displays included intricate wire Musical Notes and Golden Balls. Inspiration and Ideas were given to many in the audience, for instance the use of a decorative wire mannequin dummy.
