Gilbey a ‘volunteer’ we can do without

YOU quote John Gilbey as saying “over the eight years I have been leader it is staggering what has been achieved” (November 19). Who can match Mr Gilbey’s record of not paying tax on his travel erpenses for five years, claiming mute than £34,000 In ezpvnses during the last financial year and frequently showing a complete disregard for other councillors and the electorate? Mr Gilbey recently suggested in a letter to the paper that councillors should be considered volunteers. Volunteers arc unpaid, yet Mr Gilbey has not shown any intention of working without salary or donating his salary to charity. Canterbury will be more pleasant without him.
