Crown Post Office closure confirmed

BOSSES have confirmed that Whitstable’s Crown Post Office will close temporarily at the end of April, leaving residents and business without a town centre service. The Gladstone Road site is due to close on Wednesday, April 29, but no alternative venue, either temporary or long-term, has been found, sparking outrage among campaigners. A Post Office spokesman said:

“We are committed to keeping Post Office services in Whitstable and we are currently looking for an alternative location for the branch, where it would be run until a long-term franchise partner is found. We have engaged with Kent County Council about a potential site for the branch and we are currently speaking with Canterbury City Council about the provision of one of our temporary units as a temporary measure while we work to find a long-term solution for the area.”

The alternative sites for residents to use after the post office closes on April 29 are in Tankerton Road, Joy Lane and Herne Bay Road.
