STAGECOACH bosses have pledged to work with staff at Barton Court school on travel plans for a proposed new site in Herne Bay. The bus company has told the school it would be possible to transport pupils from Canterbury to the coast and that it is open to discussion on plans for children living further afield. Head teacher Kirstin Cardus said she hoped the hews would allay some parents’ concerns, adding:
“Travel is one of the themes raised during the ongoing consultation and in our discussions with Kent County Council, and it is very encouraging to know that the major provider of bus services in and around Canterbury is prepared to work with the school in such a positive way.”
At the moment, hundreds of children travel by bus to the school from Whitstable, Herne Bay, Sturry Thanet and Swale. If the proposed move goes ahead, pupils living in villages south of Canterbury would have to get two buses, and those who walk to school would need to use a bus. Consultation continues until March 20, and KCC have told the school it needs to address transport concerns.
