We have just held a very successful joint concert with Aylesham Ladies Choir at St Finbarr’s Church Aylesham entitled “Singing in the Summer”. The programme was very varied with Beltinge contributing items as diverse as A Gaelic Blessing by John Putter to extracts from Jonah man Jazz by Michael Hurd and The Entertainer by Scott Joplin and Aylesham singing medleys from the musicals Oliver and 40 years of Abba finishing with Wherever You Are by Paul Mealor a song made famous by the Military Ladies Choir of TV fame.
The combined choirs performed three songs: The Water of Tyne a traditional air arrange by Michael Neaum, The Joy of Music an original work with words written by Mary Hall, an ex-resident of Aylesham and music added by Gillian Dulieu and finished the evening with an exciting rendition of The Rhythm of Life from the musical Sweet Charity music by Cy Coleman Words by Dorothy Fields arranged by Richard Barnes. The choirs were conducted by Denise Float and Fay Smith for Beltinge and Jan Gambrell for Aylesham and piano accompanist Gerard Aherne provided the music for the whole evening.
