£250k clock-tower grant is boost fortown

A £250,000 investment for Herne Bay Clock Tower will boost the town’s economy according to a leading councillor. Cllr Peter Lee, who is Canterbury City Council’s executive member for finance, was speaking after news of the Heritage Lottery Fund grant was announced. He said:

“At the moment we have about 30 per cent of residents’ money spent in the town. We want to raise that percentage. By giving people more reasons to visit and find out what the town has to offer, and giving residents more reasons to spend money in the town, we can do that. This is how Herne Bay will grow and benefit its residents. We have been very successful in our grant for the clock tower and it just shows what we can achieve by running together”

Cllr Lee paid tribute to the Friends of the Clock Tower and others who had supported the application. He added:

“They have done a fantastic job of making sure we get that money for Herne Bay”
