Woman hurt as scooter is hit
An elderly woman on a mobility scooter was hit by a car as she crossed the road in Herne Bay. Police and ambulance crews were called to Kings Road, Herne Bay, after the accident at 2.20pm on Friday. The air ambulance was also called and landed in nearby Memorial Park. The woman suffered an ankle injury and was treated at the scene before being airlifted to the QEQM Hospital in Margate.
Phone shop raid
Police are hunting a shoplifter who stole two mobile phones in Herne Bay. Officers pursued the man after he left the Carphone Warehouse shop in Mortimer Street at 9.20am yesterday (Wednesday). Police spokesman Adam Westgarth said investigations were ongoing.
A lifeboat went to the aid of a stricken angling dinghy which broke down off Reculver on Wednesday afternoon last week. Waypoint One was two miles off shore and was towed to Herne Bay’s Neptune slipway.
A retired heating engineer died from inhaling asbestos. David Larkins, 73, died at Haydon Mayer Care Home in Albany Drive, Herne Bay, on April 15. An inquest in Canterbury on Thursday last week heard Mr Larkins came into contact with the material throughout his working life. Pathologist Dr Aminu Abdulkadir said a postmortem revealed asbestos bodies in Mr Larkins’ lungs, and concluded he died of pneumonia caused by asbestosis. Coroner Rebecca Cobb concluded Mr Larkins died due to industrial disease.
